LEATHER REPLACEMENT

Project

This is thought to be scottish writing desk, it required various bits of restoration most notable the leather replacing as well as sections of moulding replaced to the sides and legs. A new section of leather was matched to the original, then laid. Once the leather was laid the edges were embossed and highlighted with dark wax. Re-leathering desk tops can achieved with either a skiver or a hide the latter being better quality. We provide both options we a broad selection of tooling. This particular desk we used a skiver and tooling which corresponded to the age of the piece. The restoration included inserting hand carved double cock beading, as well as sections of old veneer to replace missing sections on the drawer dividers.
